"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2"

Dirty Feet

I was just reading in the gospel of John, the account of the last supper, where Jesus took off the garments that identified Him as a Rabbi, and wrapped Himself in a rough towel of servant-hood and washed His disciples' feet. He even washed the feet of Judas, knowing that he would shortly betray Him.

And this reminded me of the book of Philippians, where it speaks of how He took on "the form of a bond-servant" and came "in the likeness of men". He didn't just find Himself in this roll all of a sudden; it was a deliberate act. It had been planned from the foundation of the world. He did it on purpose!

There He was in Heaven with the Father. He was equal with God, but stripped Himself of the royal robes and wrapped Himself in the roughness of humanity and became like one of us. To serve us. To love us. To show us the Father.

He tried to tell us that we, too, should serve each other, even those we don't like and those who would betray us without a second thought. And we should do it on purpose! Go out of our way to serve, to love, to show them Jesus. You could call it doing 'Deliberate Acts of Kindness'.

Not an easy task for some of us earthlings. Just think, having to die to your selfishness and pride to do acts of service, be a servant, not expecting any thanks in return!

Might be good for us. Might grow some fruit of Patience, Self-Control, or Kindness in our lives! Might look like Jesus to someone...

(John 13; Philippians 2, NKJV)
